My Visit To the Highline

My family and I have been interested in visiting the Highline for a long time. My mom was interested in the artistic interventions one can find on the line, my Dad in its rail road history. I was interested in the Highline because it represents a modern Landscape Architecture project that has been facilitated by a number of different groups that all where focused on creating an effective, exciting and engaging park in the middle of a huge urban area. Without further ado, the pictures!

"Fear of the unknown is the best fear of all"-180 Degrees south

Students, interested in the Roy DeBoer Travel Prize should definitely explore a place where they are not familiar with the language.
Check out this documentary and get inspired.

The Annual Halloween Scavenger Hunt Spooktacular

On Wednesday the 24th something sinister visited Blake Hall! In order to break up the monotony that is the midterm presentation season, the RULA club held a scary spooky scavenger hunt. There where scares a plenty, with the scariest moment of the night coinciding with the officers revealing a special surprise  They dressed up as the staff! Scary indeed!

Some hapless victims descend the stairs to their doom!

Wait this isn't a picture of Laura, Dean, Wolfram, Rich and Holly?

Idea for Roy H. DeBoer Travel Prize

For those of you who want to write a proposal for the Roy H. DeBoer travel prize, this is an excellent place to look into. Check out this video by Grant Associates, the people responsible for this magical place.

Lauren Said-Moorhouse, from CNN said, "The horticultural oasis will be a contrast to the country's extremely dense urban environment, forming part of the government's overall strategy to transform Singapore into a "city in a garden."

If anyone is interested in more ideas or want to ask a few questions, I'll be glad to help out. Good luck!

Quote of the Week

" If it's a good idea and it gets you excited, try it, and if it bursts into flames, that's going to be exciting too. People always ask, 'What is your greatest failure?' I always have the same answer- we're working on it right now, it's gonna be awesome!"- Jim Coudal

Fall Fun at Duke Farms

Duke Farms in Hillsborough, NJ is truly a gem, and so close to Rutgers! Definitely a must visit for everyone interested in ecological sustainability and history of the landscape; the lesson learned here is nature conquers all.

Paterson Waterfalls and Factories

One weekend a few weeks ago, some LA students and students in a first year Bryne seminar were taken on a trip to the Paterson Waterfalls to explore the landscape that was created as a result of industry.  Besides the surprise of it also being National Parks Day, we were also surprised with being able to walk among the factories that now stand in ruin along the Passaic River.  Here are just some pictures of the amazing sights. Enjoy!

Phoenix Photography

"Design is thinking made visual." - Saul Bass

Recently, I was fortunate enough to find myself in Phoenix, Arizona for the ASLA Convention along with other members of the Rutgers Landscape Architecture Department. As the minimal time we had to explore Phoenix whizzed by, I attempted to  capture the pivotal moments of my desert design experience through the camera lens.
